WALES, ME — More than 60 cats were taken from a home in Wales this week, marking the second time that dozens of felines were seized from the property in three years, according to reports. Animal welfare agents were at the house on Ridge Road after a health services worker had visited the address and reported "horrific" conditions there, according to a report by WGME. Court documents described urine and cat feces on the floor, as well as dozens of cat carcasses inside the home. Workers were also seen removing live cats from the home, WGME reported. Similar concerns prompted animal welfare agents to visit the home in 2019, according to a report by the Sun-Journal. During the 2019 visit, 83 cats and kittens were removed from the home, but a judge ultimately ruled to return a majority of the cats to their owner. In the ruling, the judge said the owner had not violated "permissible standards of care."
