WARWICK, RI — A retired Warwick firefighter is facing federal charges after authorities say he threatened city officials, both during and after his time with the department. Barry LaFleur, 57, was charged with threats to injure the person of another transmitted in interstate or foreign commerce.
According to Rhode Island U.S. Attorney Zachary Cunha, LaFleur is accused of making tens of thousands of threats to kill, shoot, commit terrorism or mass killings or commit "workplace slaughters," mainly to city officials. The threats were primarily made via email and other online posts, the charging documents alleged.
LaFleur was arrested and released to home confinement with a GPS monitor, Cunha's office said.
