TINLEY PARK, Ill. — The Village of Tinley Park is purchasing land for $1.5 million that was once considered for a future Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210 property.
The Village Board of Trustees approved an agreement with District 210 by a 5-0 vote Tuesday, Feb. 1, during its regularly scheduled meeting. Trustee William Brennan was absent.
District 210, meanwhile, approved the agreement at its school board meeting on Jan. 20.
The property, located at 7551 191st St. in Tinley Park, is near Harlem Avenue.
"As I understood … it was a good deal for both parties," Trustee Michael Mueller said during the Committee of the Whole meeting prior to final action later that evening. "Being able to not go to a fixed bid process for [District] 210 is a huge advantage to them. It gets this off their books. As I understood it, if this is a windfall for Tinley Park, it will be a windfall for [District] 210, as well."
Mayor Michael Glotz added that the agreement was "a huge win for the residents."
"Originally, this property was priced for $11.2 million back in 2006," he said during the COTW meeting. "Now, the Village is purchasing it for $1.5 million, which is 10 times less than what it was when it went up before. Back in 2017, there was a purchase agreement between the school board and a developer for $4.6 million. This is a great price."
Per the terms of the agreement, the Village would deposit $10,000 in escrow as earnest money within seven days after the approval of the deal. The closing date was listed as May 20.
