Description
TINLEY PARK, IL — The village approved the purchase of a 72-acre lot Tuesday which currently belongs to Lincoln-Way High School District No. 210.
The board is offering $1.5 million for the property that was originally bought by the school district to build a new high school on. Now, the property in unincorporated Will County might be used as a retail development site according to Tinley Park Mayor Mike Glotz.
While the village doesn't have a set developer, Glotz said the board has already spoken to some interested builders and stores. Brookside Marketplace is just south of the 191st Street and Harlem Avenue location.
Ranging from 2006 to present day, the lot saw multiple failed plans to become home to a Walmart, Sam's Club, elementary school and Woodman's Food Market. According to an appraisal firm, only 23 acres of the site are considered "developable," due to pipe placement and floodwater potential.
The village will now need to annex the unincorporated area and rezone it for commercial use instead of residential.
