Description
WOBURN, MA — Woburn added 63 new coronavirus cases in September, rising to 769 total cases since the virus arrived in Massachusetts in March. As of Wednesday, 242 residents are in isolation, while 499 have recovered from the virus.
Twenty-eight residents have died, a number that has not risen since mid-June.
The city's case rate steadily rose over the course of September, from 2.4 per 100,000 over the last two weeks on Sept. 2 to 7.1, Wednesday. This brought the town's risk classification up to yellow, or moderate, as of the Sept. 16 update.
A case rate above 8 per 100,000 makes a community high-risk, according to state metrics.
Because it remained out of the red, Woburn can move into the next phase of reopening, Monday. The step forward reopens indoor performance venues; expands capacity at outdoor performance venues, gyms, museums, driving and flight schools; reopens more indoor activities; and permits fitting rooms to open in all retail stores. It also allows for increased outdoor gatherings at events and in public settings.
