JOLIET, IL — A 16-year-old Joliet girl is now staying at the Illinois Youth Center in St. Charles after Joliet police say she vowed to kill one of her older siblings with a gun on Tuesday morning at a house in the 300 block of South Ottawa Street, the city's southeast side.
The girl was arrested by Joliet police on charges of aggravated assault, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, defacing identification marks on a gun and unlawful possession of ammunition.
Joliet police were sent to the domestic disturbance around 11:15 a.m.
"Officers determined that during an argument, the juvenile possessed a handgun and threatened to kill her adult sibling. The juvenile fled the residence prior to the arrival of officers," Joliet police reports state.
Officers found the girl near her house and arrested her. Officers discovered a 9 mm handgun on the ground after officers followed the girl's footprints in the snow, police said. Officers were unable to locate a serial number on the weapon, authorities said.
