BOLINGBROOK, IL — After a hateful incident during a recent basketball game, the Bolingbrook High School boys basketball program has created a new initiative, #HateIsAVirus, to help stop hate and influence change, the district said in a release.
At a game last month, anti-Asian slurs were yelled at members of the Bolingbrook team.
The team announced its "Hate Is a Virus" initiative before the varsity game on Tuesday.
Players wore T-shirts with the #HateIsAVirus and shared more information about their initiative. The initiative involves celebrating all cultures and ethnicities together, uniting as a team and as a community, representing the community and educating about different cultures and backgrounds.
