BEACHWOOD, OH — Suspected narcotics, handguns and more than $140,000 in cash were seized by police during an incident in Beachwood. At 3 a.m. on Jan. 26, officers spotted "suspicious activity" in the north parking lot of Beachwood Place. Police investigated the activity and then called in a K9 unit and uniformed and plain clothes officers to apprehend two adult men in the parking lot. Officers found suspected narcotics, guns, and $140,420 during the seizure, a city spokesperson said. Both of the arrested men had previous felony convictions that barred them from having guns, a city of Beachwood spokesperson added. Formal charges against the men will be announced once the suspected narcotics are tested by a regional crime lab. "I'm very proud of our police officers and K9 Kai who proactively and tactically detected the suspicious activity in the parking lot and delivered a direct, decisive response," said Kate Dolan, Beachwood's chief of police. "We are very serious about apprehending perpetrators, and we will continue to aggressively pursue those who break the law." The DEA is assisting Beachwood police with the investigation. Beachwood Mayor Justin Berns said police will take "an aggressive approach to Beachwood Place" to make the public feel safe at the venue again.
