BIRMINGHAM, AL — One aspect of the 7A AHSAA girls basketball championship is certain: a school from Hoover will be crowned the state champion. Hoover and Spain Park each won their semifinal games Thursday at the BJCC Legacy Arena to advance to the finals. Hoover's girls defeated Central-Phenix City 58-42 Thursday morning, while the Jags beat McGill-Toolen 48-35 to advance to the finals. The Lady Bucs, 31-2 on the season, rode the scoring of Madison Adamson and Reniya Kelly, who each dropped in 15 points. The Lady Jags took care of business to reach their third final in four years. Spain Park was paced by Sarah Ashlee Barker's 26 points. This is the second time in the last three years that Spain Park and Hoover will meet in the state final. The Lady Bucs beat Spain Park 51-47 in overtime in the 2017 final. This season, the Bucs and Jags split their match-ups, with Hoover winning 56-32 back in December and Spain Park winning 61-56 in January. Tip-off for the girls 7A championship game is Saturday at 4 p.m.
