VENTURA, CA — A brush fire ignited Thursday afternoon in Ventura, sending white smoke billowing into the sky.
Photos and videos posted on social media showed thick smoke on Telegraph Road, near Day Road. Video posted by @mike_council appeared to show flames dangerously close to a strip mall containing a Dominoes restaurant and other eateries.
"#ventura Fire in the barranca, homes along Aurora Dr damaged; Aegis lost some outbuildings but is not under threat. Huge, rapid mutual aid response. THANK YOU to all the firefighters and police keeping our community safe," the tweet said.
The account later tweeted a photo of four workers of Snapper Jacks looking at the smoke:
"Snapper Jacks employees Gerardo Jurdo, Harley Penner, Alondra Guzman and Bella Giglio watch as fire crews from across the city and county arrive to battle the Arrundell Barranca Fire in #ventura."
The Ventura County Star reported that firefighters were sent to the 5200 block of Telegraph Road around 12:30 p.m., and that the blaze burned vegetation and threatened homes.
Patch has reached out to the Ventura County Fire Department and will update when we hear back.
