Operation Deep Freeze Is On In Tucson: Extra Shelter Beds Open

TUCSON, AZ — Tucson had opened up overflow shelter beds as of Wednesday as part of Operation Deep Freeze. The overflow shelter beds are available for people experiencing homelessness who are seeking safe shelter from the cold. Overnight lows on Wednesday in the Tucson area were predicted at 27 degrees or colder, according to the National Weather Service. The extra beds were set to be open until further notice, according to a Facebook post. To get a bed, go to the Salvation Army Hospitality House at 1002 N. Main Ave. in Tucson from 2-5 p.m. for intake. Dinner is served from 5-6 p.m. Operation Deep Freeze is Tucson's cold weather emergency shelter program for those experiencing homelessness. The extra shelter beds are opened when overnight lows are predicted at 40 degrees or colder with rain, 35 degrees or colder without rain, or when wind chill poses a safety threat.
