Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix: A pedestrian was struck and killed by a light rail train near Central Avenue and Culver Street on Wednesday around 7 p.m. Phoenix police are still investigating and have not released the identity of the pedestrian. Valley Metro reported heavy delays for light rail trains on Wednesday night, likely as a result of the crash. (ABC15 Arizona) Juneteenth is now an official paid city holiday, as approved by the Phoenix City Council, who voted unanimously at its Wednesday meeting. Deputy Associate Superintendent Dr. Ann Hart reiterated the importance of "the meaning of freedom for African Americans in particular, as well as to the nation and the rest of the world." Major Katie Gallego sees the holiday as a "positive indicator of how [Phoenix] wants to build communities going forward."
