RIVERHEAD, NY — A man was arrested after he displayed a knife after stealing items from a Riverhead supermarket Tuesday, police said.
According to Riverhead Police, Nicholas Berg, 36, who is homeless, was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery, a felony.
Police said they received a report on Tuesday at noon regarding a larceny at Gala Fresh Farms, located on Old Country Road, at noon; authorities interviewed Gala Fresh employees and it was determined that Berg removed items from the supermarket without paying for them, police said.
Berg, when confronted outside the location by a store employee, displayed a knife, police said.
Detectives were notified and responded to assist in the investigation, police said.
Berg was arraigned in Riverhead Justice Court and remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility without bail, police said.
