Here are the top stories in Atlanta today: Now that it's raining, it's pouring. A Flood Watch has been extended to most of metro Atlanta until 1 p.m. today. Counties within the watch could see 1-4 inches of rain, causing flooding of rivers, creeks and streams. Severe Weather Team 2 predicts several inches of rain will fall, especially north of Atlanta. (WSB Atlanta)The Atlanta Hawks have teamed up with the Prostate Cancer Foundation and Emory Healthcare to launch its fourth annual Black History Month Assist Challenge. Throughout February, the Hawks Foundation will donate $250 to the Prostate Cancer Foundation for every assist registered by the Hawks. The challenge also is designed to raise awareness of prostate cancer inequities in Black men. One in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime, and Black men are about 75 percent more likely to develop prostate cancer than non-Hispanic white men. The Hawks' Black History Month Assist Challenge began Thursday, with the team's home game against Phoenix at State Farm Arena. For more information about the Black History Month Assist Challenge and additional resources provided by Winship Cancer Institute, go to Hawks.com/PCF. (Rockdale Newton Citizen) Tab lovers are uniting. As of Thursday, 4,754 of the diet soda's fans have signed a petition asking Atlanta-based Coca-Cola to bring back Tab, the soft drink in the pink can with the groovy white lettering that seems straight out of the 1960s - because it is. First produced in 1963, Tab was discontinued in 2020. According to a Change.org petition, the cola's devotees have set a goal of 5,000 in the hopes of getting attention from news media. Nevertheless, a Coca-Cola spokesperson told CNN Business, "There are no plans to bring it back." (Atlanta Patch) Traffic advisory: If you're a commuter who has to pass through a bustling area of Midtown in the heart of the Atlanta, plan to make detours for the next few days. According to a Facebook post from the Atlanta Police Department, a portion of Spring Street NW is closing to make room for an additional support crane installation at an ongoing construction project. The closure affects Spring Street NW between 12th Street NW and 14th Street NW and will remain in effect until Sunday at 11:59 p.m. (11Alive.com WXIA) There are promising signs in the race to save a super-rare Southern species from extinction, and it's happening at an Atlanta nonprofit. The critter in question is the frosted flatwoods salamander, a glistening black squiggle with silvery-white splotchy stripes. "There's something to be said for the little creepy crawlies," said biologist Harold Mitchell. Now, after years of work to get these particular creepy crawlies to breed in captivity, it's finally happening. Frosted flatwoods salamanders started hatching this week at the Amphibian Foundation in Atlanta. "Our estimates are that they maybe have another five or 10 years without significant conservation intervention before they're extinct," said Mark Mandica, the executive director and co-founder of the organization. An ordained minister and accomplished scholar in the field of Religion and Philosophy, Mays served as president of Morehouse College from 1940 to 1967. Known for the positive influence and inspiration he gave to his students, he was a leading advocate for the ideals of human dignity and social justice. These themes had a profound impact on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.β€”the two developed a lifelong bond. King invited Mays to give the benediction at the March on Washington in 1963 and Mays gave the eulogy at Dr. King's funeral.
