HOOVER, AL — Jefferson County confirmed 106 new cases of COVID-19 Friday, and has seen a spike in its numbers of daily new cases of the virus in the last week. One particular ZIP code in Hoover is one reason why.
According to the Jefferson County Department of Health, the 35244 ZIP code has reported more than 100 cases of COVID-19 in the last 14 days, more than any ZIP code in the county. As well, 35216 and 35226 have reported between 70 and 100 new cases in the last two weeks.
Total, more than 1,000 cases of COVID-19 have come from the 35244 ZIP code alone. More than 1,300 cases have come from the 35226 ZIP code and more than 1,200 cases have come from the 35216 ZIP code.
As of Friday, Jefferson County had confirmed 18,715 total cases of the virus since March.
Statewide, Alabama added 798 new COVID-19 cases to its total, and confirmed eight deaths from the virus overnight.
