HOOVER, AL — Amid a significant spike in COVID-19 cases in Jefferson and Shelby counties in November, Hoover City Schools announced schools that had returned to full time campus learning will return to a staggered schedule.
The system said the student body had seen seven times as many positive tests last week as it had in the beginning of the school year. Faculty saw six times as many positive tests.
"Our students and school personnel have been similarly impacted," said a statement from the system. "In the case of personnel, we have been presented with staffing challenges."
The staggered schedule began Monday. "Moreover, when we return from Winter Break (the first day back for students is January 4, 2021), we will maintain staggered scheduling for the first two weeks," the system said. "With Monday, January 18, 2021 being MLK Jr. Day, all students will resume a 5-day week schedule on Tuesday, January 19, 2021."

Hoover HS Feeder Pattern: Student last names A-L attend Monday & Thursday; Last names M-Z attend Tuesday and Friday. Spain Park HS Feeder Pattern: Student last names A-K attend Monday & Thursday; last names L-Z attend Tuesday and Friday ALL students off campus on Wednesdays for at-home, remote learning.
