WOBURN, MA — Woburn Public Schools administrators are grappling with survey results about the period of remote learning as they develop plans for a fall reopen that may be either fully or partially-remote. The state has asked all school districts to create three plans for the fall, with fully in-person learning as the third option. The state's top education official told districts to prioritize in-person learning due to current coronavirus conditions, but said not to announce final decisions until August. Woburn officials sent a survey about remote learning to families, students and teachers in June, receiving over 1,000 responses. All three groups had praise for some parts of the experience, particularly the hard work done by teachers. But they were also clear about challenges. >>MA School Reopening: Districts To Prioritize In-Person Learning Few hard numbers were given in the district's summary of the survey results, but responses are quoted. All three groups noted that students had a hard time focusing while working from home, with over 60 percent of teachers saying they want professional development for improving student engagement. Respondents also called for more standardization and clear expectations, and more resources for staff and for diverse learners. Students said they would like more time in small groups or one-on-one with teachers. The survey results are "very important and helpful to us as we think ahead," Superintendent Matthew Crowley said in an letter to the school community.
