Community Compost Company is leading the region in the development of a systems approach to food waste reduction, collection, and local processing. We currently collect food scraps in the Hudson Valley and Northern NJ. The material collected is brought to local farm sites and made into compost, to restore soil quality for the myriad of attributes that it offers the environment. The finished compost is sold through our brand Hudson Soil Company. About the Position: Looking for a Compost Site Operator/“Brewmaster” to manage our facility located in Kerhonkson, NY and help grow additional sites. The position is currently 40 hours/week. This is a physical position requiring outdoor work in all seasons. Ideal candidates should be fascinated by compost, soil science and a self-starter who communicates with the highest level of integrity. A candidate that takes pride and ownership in their position, is looking to improve efficiency at every level without compromising product or company quality and mission. Candidates should be reasonably fit, team player, pleasant, curious, organized, and desire to work for product excellence. The site operator will operate all kinds of light and heavy equipment, wheel loader, skid steer, forklift, and tractor with loader bucket to blend feedstocks, turn compost windrows and screen compost. The applicant must have experience operating similar equipment, a strong interest in compost, and must possess an attention to detail. Preference will be shown to candidates with previous composting experience especially ASP composting and those who have received training at the US Composting Council Operators Training Course, Maine Compost School or equivalent programs. Familiarity with Dr. Elaine Ingham and Soil Food Web protocols desired. Preference will also be given to those living in the Hudson Valley or within 1 hour of the compost site in Kerhonkson, NY.
