BIRMINGHAM, AL — Round 3 of the AHSAA football playoffs kicks off Friday night, with several Birmingham-area teams still alive in the hunt for a state championship. In Class 7A, Hoover and Thompson face off in semifinal action, while in 6A, Mountain Brook and Clay-Chalkville go head-to-head in quarterfinal play. Pinson Valley also plays in a 6A quarterfinal game against top-ranked Oxford Friday night. 5A no. 1 Ramsay is in action as well, playing Russellville.
