BIRMINGHAM, AL — Winning cures all when it comes to football in Alabama, and as Auburn looks for a replacement for departed head coach Gus Malzahn, the Tigers turned their attention to UAB's Bill Clark, who is coming off a Conference USA championship. But will Clark leave Birmingham for the Loveliest Village on the Plains? According to a report by CBS Sports, Clark was interviewed by Auburn and possibly offered the position, but Clark has opted to stay at UAB. College football reported Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports confirmed on social media that Clark has withdrawn himself from consideration for the Auburn job. Bill Clark apparently has dropped out of the Auburn search. Napier and Sarkesian have reportedly removed themselves from consideration, like Clark. Malzahn was fired Dec. 13 after eight years as the Tigers head coach and a 68-35 record. He won an SEC championship in his first season in 2103, a year he led the Tigers to a berth in the BCS championship game and a 12-2 record, which included dramatic last-minute wins over rivals Alabama and Georgia. Malzahn was just three years removed from a seven-year $49 million contract extension, which included a guaranteed 75 percent of the deal's value. He will receive half of his $21,450,000 buyout within 30 days of his termination and the remainder will be paid in four equal annual installments.
