WFFD's 4th Annual Brotherhood Seminar featuring Todd Edwards, Atlanta FD (ret). Three lectures over two days and a social with pipes & drums Todd Edwards will be giving three different lectures on today's hot topics in the fire service this year and you do not want to miss out on this! March 18th, 2022: 1300-1600 March 19th, 2022: 0900-1200 & 1300-1600 Event held at 133 W. Owen Ave. Lecture Information: Friday: "Secrets, A**holes, & Love":This highly interactive course takes a look at the secrets for a long and successful career, how to deal with difficult people (The A**holes), staying engaged with your career, and how to love the job. Saturday: - "Make Training Great Again": The fire service preaches “safety” at every turn, we have at times become so safety-focused, we have forgotten to be mission focused. This course looks at the importance of training, how to conduct company drills and how to maintain long term training programs. This class not only provides practical ideas to make training a priority but will motivate members to get out and train. - "Situational Awareness; Reality Lessons": This course takes an honest approach to how easily we can lose our situational awareness and how this can lead to a firefighter's line of duty death or near miss. This program utilizes case studies, actual radio traffic, images, and open conversations about the importance of gaining and maintaining our situational awareness throughout the incident. During the case studies, students will learn directly from the instructor who served as the incident commander during a near-miss incident and a LODD where the instructor served as one of the investigating officers. Students are provided the opportunity to ask questions about the decision-making process that directly led to one firefighter being killed and one member being trapped for over 15 minutes. Todd's background: Todd Edwards has over 36 years of experience in the fire services. Starting his career at 16 years old with a small combination department in Ohio, Todd then moved to Georgia where he spent more than 30 years with Atlanta Fire Rescue. During his career with Atlanta, he held a variety of positions including Captain, Battalion Chief and Assistant Fire Chief. While with Atlanta, Todd developed and taught the majority of the city training curriculum, and co-developed the city Standard Operating Guidelines. After retiring in 2018, he served the city as a consultant and the lead instructor / coordinator for Atlanta’s Officer Development Program. While working with Atlanta, Todd was also the Lead Instructor for Walton County Fire Rescue in northeast Georgia. For the past 20 years, Todd has also been an adjunct instructor for the Georgia Fire Academy. Todd has also developed countless training programs currently being utilized by numerous departments, specializing in department-based curriculums for training and fire ground operations. An aggressive combination department serving the Town of Wake Forest and Wakette Fire District in Northern Wake County, NC. Established in 1921, we have 5 stations and run rougly 4200 calls a year.
