This is the last of four writing workshops put on by the Johnston County Writers Group in conjunction with the NEA Big Read Clayton. Write it Out: Using Words to Write a Family Poem The final workshop in our Write It Out series will be led by Leslie Waugh and local poet like Teresa Blackmon, who spent a lifetime teaching and then published a book of poetry about her father and family life. Workshop participants will be invited to read, reflect and write on prompts from The House on Mango Street. Everyone will be encouraged to share their own experiences as well and will discuss the economy and symbolism of words and sharing personal stories of family relationships. Each participant will receive a copy of The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. Participants will also obtain information about the North Carolina Poetry Society and upcoming poetry events. Masks are required for this indoor event.
