"Find A Rainbow" Day is a simple, little-known holiday celebrated on April 3rd every year. It has no historical significance. Believed to be first celebrated in 2013*, there is no factual reason as to why it was created or who was the creator. It is not declared as a national holiday.
Last year at Memorial Park Recreation Center, we held a paint party to celebrate this unique holiday. This year, we wanted to try it again but add more purpose to the event. Essentially, it allowed us a way to be innovative and make something out of nothing. Our objective was to answer the question: what can be done with paint party art and how can this type of event benefit our center and the community?
Following the convention of paint parties, participants will paint an image that will be used to beautify our game room at MPRC. The painting theme is inspired by the work "Shot Marilyns" created by Andy Warhol. They will enjoy music or participate in the singing of songs of a "rainbow" nature such as Rainbow Connection by Kermit the Frog and Somewhere Over the Rainbow originally sung by Judy Garland from Wizard of Oz. They will also receive healthy refreshments as we at MPRC work towards creating healthier communities.
