Northport Middle School Provides VA Hospital With DVD Collection

NORTHPORT, NY — The Northport VA Hospital recently received a generous gift from Northport Middle School students, the Northport-East Northport Union Free School District announced in a news release. The Northport Middle School National Junior Honor Society organized a DVD drive for the residents at the Northport VA. Due to the ongoing pandemic, patients are not able to socialize much. When Cheryl Gavin and Christine Carroll, the honor society's advisors, heard that residents had been given DVD players for their rooms but didn't have many DVDs, they took action. The members of the Northport Middle School community donated more than 300 DVDs to the drive. National Junior Honor Society students organized and boxed all of the DVDs and loaded them into cars. The DVDs were delivered to the Northport VA on Friday. The hospital's recreational therapist will then create a library for the residents to borrow DVDs for their viewing pleasure. Supporting community service and selflessly doing for others is one of the messagesthe junior honor society advisors hope to deliver to their members each year. "The students enjoyed putting together the DVDs and are excited to know that they have now provided a source of enjoyment for the residents who are unable to get out and about due to COVID restrictions," Cheryl Gavin stated via news release. The National Junior Honor Society has 75 student members. DVDs were donated by students, staff, and families of the entire school.
