MEDFORD, MA — A vaccination mandate for most indoor businesses is not being considered in Medford, according to a spokesperson for the city. "Currently there is no vaccine mandate under discussion," Steve Smirti, acting director of communications for Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn, wrote in an email. In December, the city implemented a proof of vaccination policy at large-scale entertainment venues like the Chevalier Theatre. But it has no plans to expand that requirement to mirror a policy like Boston's, which includes indoor restaurants, movie theaters and gyms. Smirti said the Board of Health sets health policy for private businesses and the public, and considers input from the mayor's office. "We come to these decisions by analyzing data and set appropriate guidelines that prioritize the health and safety of the community," he wrote. As of Jan. 31, 46,418 Medford residents have been fully vaccinated, 52,842 have received at least one dose and 25,537 have been boosted, according to the latest data from the city. Medford has a population of about 56,000.
