Fire Sparked By Electrical Event In Floor Causes $255K In Damage

RESTON, VA — Fire inspectors determined that an electrical event was the cause of an early morning house fire Monday in the Reston, according to a Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department blog post. Inspectors also classified the fire as accidental and estimated damage to be $255,000. Fire units from the Fairfax and Loudoun counties responded around 2:01 a.m. for the report of a house fire in the 1200 block of Shaker Drive. Arriving on scene, firefighters found a small visible fire on the rear exterior wall of a two-story, single-family home. After locating the fire in the floor system between the basement and first floor, fire crews determined the it had also spread into the first-floor kitchen. They were then able to access the floor system and extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported, according to the blog post. One of the two occupants in the home at the time of the fire noticed that the power had gone out. A short time later, she saw smoke in the home. The two exited the house and called 911. The occupants were displaced by the fire, according to the blog post.
