I am Elizabeth Harrah, the Independent candidate for State Representative to serve Winchester and Stoneham. I am running against incumbent State Representative Michael Day. Numerous news outlets have incorrectly reported that Michael Day is running unopposed in the general election this November based off of primary election results. However, primary elections are held for each party to designate their candidates. As an Unenrolled (aka Independent) candidate, I do not have the benefit of being listed on the primary ballot, just the general election ballot. Unfortunately, this causes confusion for many voters. Surprisingly, Independents make up the majority of Winchester and Stoneham residents. In fact, 56% of registered voters in these two towns are designated as being unenrolled with either party, meaning we (Independents) actually get to decide who will be our representative. As an Independent candidate, I have quickly learned the challenges of not being affiliated with a particular party or funded by special interest groups. However, I am determined to overcome those obstacles because of what is at stake this election. We desperately need change!I believe I can offer a fresh and unique perspective to the State Legislature while remaining committed to representing the voters in my district. As a mom to two young boys, a mentor to young adults, and a breastfeeding counselor to moms in our communities, I understand the practical, everyday challenges facing our families and towns. My 15 years of health care experience, including women's health, will allow me to follow the data and science in order to promote sound policies that ensure public safety and address health concerns while increasing economic growth. It is time for change. Winchester and Stoneham deserve a State Representative who will lead with integrity and stay focused on making decisions in the voters best interest.
