U.S. Senate Race: How Alabama Counties Voted

MONTGOMERY, AL — Former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville has been projected as the winner in the U.S. Senate race against incumbent Doug Jones. Tuberville did so by carrying all but 14 of Alabama's counties. According to the unofficial tally from the Alabama Secretary of State's office, more than 2.2 million ballots were cast in this particular race, with Tuberville receiving an unofficial count of more than 1.3 million votes. Check the Alabama Secretary of State website to see how your county voted. Although the election has not been officially certified by Secretary of State John Merrill, the unofficial results show Sen. Doug Jones won Jefferson, Sumter, Greene, Russell, Macon, Bullock, Lowndes, Montgomery, Dallas, Wilcox, Marengo and Hale counties. Tuberville's largest margin of victory was in Cleburne County, where he captured 88.2 percent of the votes cast. His lowest margin of victory came in Madison County, where he edged out Jones 98,814 votes to 94,021. Tuberville's projected victory would again place two Republican senators from Alabama in Washington again, as Jones' election in 2017 was the first time since 1992 that a Democrat had been elected to the U.S. Senate from Alabama. Sen. Richard Shelby, who was elected as a Democrat in the 1992 election, switched his party affiliation to Republican in 1994. "An Alabama Senate seat can not be bought," Tuberville said in his victory speech Tuesday night, referencing Jones' campaign out-raising his. "I want to thank Doug Jones for his effort, but it's time to go home."
