NEW YORK CITY, NY — For the second time in less than a week, thousands will gather on Fifth Avenue to pay their respects to two fallen New York Police Department officers. Jason Rivera, 22, and Wilbert Mora, 27, both died responding to a domestic incident late last month. It is important, and an honor, for East Haven police officers to represent their community at Mora's funeral, police Capt. Joseph M. Murgo told Patch Wednesday morning. Murgo was joined by East Haven police Sgt. Joseph Mulhern, Sgt. Joseph Finoia, Sgt. Jeffrey Vailette, Detective Jon Trinh and officers Micah Belcher and Christian Lupoli in New York City. Rivera's funeral at was held at St. Patrick's Cathedral Wednesday. "We are honored to be able to represent the East Haven Police Department," Murgo said. "Any line of duty death affects us all. Although we may not all know each other personally, we all know the risks we take each and every day. This reality makes us one big family, who supports each other during these tragic times." Last week, Rivera's funeral also at St. Patrick's Cathedral, began with a rendition of "Amazing Grace." Police officers from across the region, and the nation, lined Fifth Avenue to pay their respects. Read that story from Patch here. Watch a livestream of Mora's funeral here.
