Description
BIRMINGHAM, AL — Birmingham Police Department on Monday rolled out its mobile app to help residents more easily connect with authorities, submit tips and stay up to date on nearby notifications and police news.
The department said the app allows users to submit tips, research nearby sex offenders, access the department's social media platforms, read news updates, search jail information and access crime statistics.
The application was developed by ThePoliceApp.com, a division of OCV. Kevin Cumming, Vice President of OCV, said the app aims to reach as many residents as possible with important information.
"Over 80 percent of people in the United States own and use smartphones as their primary means of communication," Cummings said in a statement. "Mobile apps offer agencies a better way to alert, inform and prepare the public. Apps allow public safety agencies the ability to reach and serve their citizens where they are: their smartphones."
The department on Monday released a video on social media detailing how to use the app. According to the video, the app also lets users contact department administration and submit compliments, comments and complaints.
