Birmingham Police Identify Victim In Fatal Shooting

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Birmingham police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred Wednesday night. He is Jason Ford, 21, of Bessemer. According to police, just after 6 p.m, the Birmingham Police Department's 911 Communications Division received a call of a person shot in the alley way of the 2100 block of 32nd Avenue North. Officers from North Precinct responded to the location and found Ford unresponsive in the drivers seat of his vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Ford was pronounced deceased on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue and the Jefferson County Coroner, police said. Police said a preliminary investigation suggests two Black men fled the location on foot after Ford was shot. Detectives said they have not established a motive, and there are no suspects in custody. This is the 104th homicide of 2020 in Birmingham with 13 justifiable death investigations and one non-criminal homicide (accidental shooting), police said. Editor's Note: An earlier report by BPD had the victim identified as "Justin." His correct first name is, in fact, Jason, according to police.
