ATLANTA — Thanks to a partnership between a Fulton County not-for-profit organization, county officials and several other groups, 1,000 area families will be able to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal for the holiday next week. Feed A Billion, in conjunction with several groups including Fulton County schools and Atlanta Public Schools, are providing the meals for families that were identified by the two school districts. The families, which, according to Feed A Billion's website would not otherwise be able to afford the holiday meals, were scheduled to pick up meals Thursday evening at two locations as part of the collective effort. Each family will receive a turkey, frozen apple pie, fresh produce and a grocery gift card to fill out their holiday meal. Families chosen to receive the meals could pick up the meals from 4-7 p.m. at Banneker High School in Atlanta and the Fulton County Schools North Transportation Center in Alpharetta, according to a news release. "This year has brought financial hardship to so many families across our community, and no child should ever go hungry," Fulton County Chairman Robb Pitts said in the release. "As the need for support continues to grow, creative partnerships like this one, with includes corporate, nonprofit, and public sector agencies collaborating together, help ensure that no one gets left behind." In addition to Feed A Billion and the two school districts, the Sutton Buckhead and Fulton County government contributed to the effort to provide the Thanksgiving meals for the families. Patch News Partner/Shutterstock Patch has partnered with Feeding America to help raise awareness on behalf of the millions of Americans facing hunger. Feeding America, which supports 200 food banks across the country, estimates that in 2020, more than 50 million Americans will not have enough nutritious food to eat due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. This is a Patch social good project; Feeding America receives 100 percent of donations. Find out how you can donate in your community or find a food pantry near you.
