Up and at 'em, Austin! Here's everything you need to know to get this Wednesday started off right. Here's everything worth knowing around Austin today. First, today's weather: Partly sunny, showers around. High: 68 Low: 36. Here are the top stories today in Austin: Details on Project Connect, Austin's "anti-displacement initiatives for Capital Metro's multi-billion-dollar public transit overhaul," were recently released by the City of Austin: "$65 million will be allocated toward anti-displacement efforts this year, with funding coming from a $300 million housing bond approved by voters in 2020." According to the City, "all Project Connect anti-displacement funds will focus on preventing displacement within one mile of transit lines." They divided initial investments into three focus areas: "$23 million for land acquisition; $21 million for the acquisition, rehabilitation, and construction of affordable housing; and $20 million in community development funds for community-initiated, neighborhood-focused programs and projects." Funding is expected in spring 2022. For more details on the project, please visit: (newsradioklbj.com) The staff at The Oakwood Cemetery Chapel is looking for descendants of people of color buried in the Oakwood Cemetery, located at 1601 Navasota St., "to participate in a vision session with Oakwood's Historic Preservation and Archaeology project specialists." The project is funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. During the session, participants will attend a Zoom meeting to discuss the project and ideas and may also "record an oral history about their family," and the staff will be able to "scan photos and documents to help preserve their family heritage." The scans and recordings will be available to families free of charge so they can have them as keepsakes. "If you are a descendant of someone buried at Oakwood Cemetery, or have information on those individuals, please call Jennifer Chenoweth, museum site coordinator for the Oakwood Cemetery Chapel, at 512-978-2310 or email [email protected]."
