Description

Press release from Johnson City Public Library: January 29, 2022 Your Library is holding a reading challenge for kids and adults in February called "Our Stories" that highlights diverse cultures and experiences. The challenge begins this Tuesday, February 1 and runs through Friday, February 25. Our Stories focuses on underrepresented or marginalized groups' stories, as well as the different ways those stories are told. You'll read books written by diverse authors and attend Library events that highlight different cultures. Like all our other reading challenges, you use our online portal Beanstack to keep track of what you read. You also use Beanstack to find Our Stories reading suggestions, write book reviews, and earn virtual badges. Throughout February you can join us for events that highlight the art, music, oral traditions, and food from diverse cultures. You'll get a taste of how different people groups tell their stories at a kids' Brazilian cooking class, a bachata dance class for adults, and a Mexican art class. Click here to find our full calendar of events. Your Library's purpose in highlighting diverse stories is to encourage people to discover new perspectives and cultural practices that deepen their understanding of others.
