Description
CHATHAM BOROUGH, NJ — Just like that, the Chatham Sandwich Shop was gone. A fire destroyed the longstanding establishment Wednesday morning, but the business said they will work to rebuild.
Social-media photos showed significant damage to the interior and exterior of the 253 Main St. shop. The fire rapidly spread through the store, according to the business.
"We sincerely appreciate from the bottom of our hearts the outpouring of love and support we have received from the Chatham community," the Chatham Sandwich Shop's Facebook page says. "As we work to rebuild, we will keep you updated and we truly hope to be back as soon as possible doing what we love."
A former employee started a GoFundMe page to help the Chatham Sandwich Shop with its rebuild and support employees. The page has raised $2,155 of the $20,000 goal as 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, but they noted it's unknown how much repairs will cost. See the GoFundMe here.
"The community of Chatham will be there for the Chatham Sandwich Shop as they rebuild," the page says.
Officials closed off part of Main Street in Chatham on Wednesday morning for a police investigation. The road had closed between Fairmount and N. Passaic Avenues, where the Chatham Sandwich Shop sits.
The business said to check its website and Instagram page for updates.
