Description

AURORA, IL — Heavy snowfall Wednesday morning has caused Groot, Aurora's refuse collector, to suspend pickup for the remainder of Wednesday, city officials announced. In an alert, officials said any uncollected trash will be picked up Thursday. Cans can be left out until then, but officials are asking residents to clear them of snow so they're visible in the morning. Collections will also be postponed by one day for the remainder of the week, so residents whose garbage is usually collected Friday can expect it taken Saturday. Normal refuse collection will resume Monday. Other services, including the Aurora Public Library District, also closed Wednesday. Library staff announced buildings would close at 1 p.m. Wednesday "for the safety of our staff." School, on the other hand, remained open. East Aurora School District 131 announced students should report to school one hour later than their normal start times due to the weather, while West Aurora School District 129 opted to continue as regularly scheduled.
