CHARLOTTE, NC — The merger of SunTrust and BB&T Banks created Truist Bank, based in Charlotte, but it also created some redundancy, like one branch of a bank just across the street from another.
In an effort to reduce those redundancies, Truist announced it will close five Charlotte area banks in March, according to The Charlotte Observer.
"With so many heritage BB&T and SunTrust branches in close proximity to one another, there are natural opportunities to reduce redundant branches with very little impact to our clients,"Truist said in a statement.
A total of 800 of their banks will close nationwide.
Banks have closed at a record rate in North Carolina, with a total of 52 closing last year alone.
Here are the Truist locations closing:
1. 2211 W. Arbors Drive, Charlotte
2. 700 W. King St., Kings Mountain
3. 507 W. Innes St., Salisbury
4. 1908 Old Charlotte Hwy., Monroe
5. 118 N. Main St., Belmont
