Press release from the City of Arcadia: February 01, 2022 Sadly, we have been hearing about deadly structure fires recently in the news including loss of life caused by space heaters.  According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), more than 80% of home heating fire deaths involved stationary or portable space heaters and often happen during the winter months, from December through February.  Also, half of the home heating fire deaths were caused by having heating equipment too close to things that could burn such as upholstered furniture, clothing mattresses, or bedding. As we nestle into the warmth of our portable heaters during the cool weather of the winter season, the Arcadia Fire Department would like to remind our residents of the dangers associated with the unsafe use and improper selection of portable safe heaters in their homes.  With a few simple safety tips and precautions, you can prevent most heating fires from happening.   Published: February 01, 2022 This press release was produced by the City of Arcadia.
