Description
I’m a composer/guitarist looking to form an experimental quartet or quintet. I have a drummer interested. We’re specifically looking for a double bass player and a wind or brass player, but open to other possibilities. I envision this music as guided improvisation… working from fixed musical ideas or lead sheets, although it could at times be completely free and at others fully scored. You should be comfortable reading music. My background is in indie rock/contemporary classical/avant-garde/new music, but I’d like to play with musicians experienced in free jazz. Of course, if your experience is more in contemporary classical music, please email! The music will be outside of the norm, and we’re looking for other musicians that have experience with that. As much as I’d rather not list other artists, I find that people’s impression of ‘experimental’ varies considerably. So, here are four: Evan Parker, Anthony Braxton, Nels Cline, John Zorn. I hope we sound like none of them, but that will get you in the ballpark.
