The City of Newport News is seeking our next Senior Pipelayer Specialist!
The Pipelayer position plays a vital role in the installation,
repair and maintenance of the City’s pipeline and water
distribution system. There are two levels of this position,
with the senior level having a responsibility to train other
Pipelayers and Construction Maintenance Workers.
This position oversees excavation and lifting operations
related to pipelaying. You would have the opportunity to
operate various equipment like the crewtruck, dump trucks,
back hoes, rollers and other hand and power tools! There is
some paperwork and recording required with this position
as well.

The salary range for this position depends on the level.
The Pipelayer salary range is $30-$51k, while the Senior
Pipelayer salary range is $32k-$54k. Salary ranges are
competitive based on qualifications and experience. In
addition to salary, the City offers a comprehensive

There are two levels of Pipelayer distinguished by the
level of work performed and the qualifications of the
employee.
The Pipelayer position requires a high school diploma
and 1-2 years of related pipelaying experience, or an
equivalent combination of education and experience.
The Senior Pipelayer requires a high school diploma
and 3-5 years of related pipelaying experience, or an
equivalent combination of education and experience.
