CONCORD, MA — A Concord resident is working with a Massachusetts-based charity to help save countless greyhounds in Florida. Faced with new legislation in Florida eliminating greyhound racing by the end of 2020, the number of gentle greyhounds in need of homes will drastically increase. Stuart Fried of Concord is a board member for the The Greyhound Project, which is dedicated to spreading the message of greyhound adoption awareness to ensure that all of the dogs find caring homes. "Greyhounds make great pets and companions; they are gentle 40-mile-per-hour couch potatoes," said Greyhound Project board member Stuart Fried. "The need to move these dogs to where they can find their permanent homes is more critical than ever. Costs associated with accomplishing this present a real challenge. National Adopt-a-Greyhound Month is the perfect time to welcome a retired athlete into your dog-loving family or to donate toward rehoming efforts if you're not able to adopt." The Greyhound Project works to support over 300 greyhound adoption groups around the world. In addition to promoting National Adopt-a-Greyhound Month, the charity publishes wall and desk calendars for adoption groups to resell and maintains an international directory of adoption organizations.
