CHELMSFORD, MA — Two Chelmsford High School students are among five finalists out of dozens of entries this month celebrating excellence in High School Musical Theatre. Sachi Badola, a junior, and senior Allison Dorsey were named finalists for the Virtual TAMY Awards October Challenge in the category Musical Theater Solo, Theater At the Mount announced Monday. Badola and Dorsey are two of the five finalists among 45 student entries spanning 12 high schools. The winner will be announced on Sunday. "You need to have confidence with humility when you're performing. Those two qualities will take you a long way," Theater Director of CHS's Fine and Performing Arts Department Lauren Cochran said."Sachi and Allison are both studious and conscientious every time we do a production. They're always asking what they can do better, what they can work on." Theater At the Mount, the renowned theater and arts program at Mount Wachusett Community College, is holding its annual TAMY Awards virtually this year because of the pandemic. The college is accepting nominations each month through April in various categories. In November the categories were Musical Theater Solo and Makeup Design, December the category is Duet Scene and January will be dedicated to honoring outstanding Set Design. High Schools across the region are invited to participate and at the end of the year, the school that has the most awards will win a two-year scholarship to Mount Wachusett Community College. Badola performed and submitted "What Baking Can Do," from the Adrienne Shelly film-turned-musical "Waitress." Dorsey performed and submitted "So Many People" from the Stephen Sondheim musical "Saturday Night," according to Cochran.
