Lowell Man Pinned Under Snow Removal Equipment In Chelmsford

CHELMSFORD, MA — A Lowell man was suffering from "serious, life-threatening injuries" after being pinned under snow removal equipment in Chelmsford Saturday morning and subsequently med-flighted to Tufts Medical Center in Boston. Chelmsford Police Chief James M. Spinney said the 30-year-old Lowell man, who works for Romero Landscaping out of Chelmsford, was pinned between one of the arms of a skid-steer loader and one of its tires in the alley behind the commercial building at 2 Alpine Lane. Spinney said someone who works in the Alpine Lane commercial building reported hearing a man yell for help nearby shortly before 9. Spinney said Chelmsford police and fire found the man pinned and had to use extrication equipment to free him. The victim was taken to Lowell General Hospital with the help of the Lowell General Hospital Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being med-flighted to Tufts Medical Center. Police said a preliminary investigation determined the victim was operating the equipment by himself and it appears to be an accident. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified and responded to the scene.
