Clan/Society Registration Application 16 Annual Prescott Highland Games & Celtic Faire September 24th & 25th, 2022 Dating back as far as the 12th century, the Scottish clans were originally created as extensions of families– particularly to show who had loyalties to a particular chief. It is a common misconception that every person who bears a clan’s name is a lineal descendant of the chiefs. Many clansmen although not related to the chief took the chief’s surname as their own to either show solidarity, or to obtain basic protection or for much needed sustenance. Interestingly enough, the actual word ‘clan’ comes from a Gaelic term, ‘clann’, which literally translates to “children”. The Scottish clan system served as the primary political system, until 1746, particularly the battle of Culloden, which brought on the crushing of the Jacobite rebellion, by the royal troops of King George II. Today, we celebrate the traditions of the clans, and our clan row allows you to learn about different clans’ history, connect with your own ancestry, or just meet some great new friends! Our clan representatives are very knowledgeable, passionate people who would love to have a visit from you! Welcome to the Prescott Area Celtic Society Home of the Prescott Highland Games & Celtic Faire at “Loch Watson”September 25 – 26th, 2021. Our organization, a 501(c) (3), exists in order to promote cultural pride in Celtic heritage through education, special events and the annual Prescott Highland Games & Celtic Faire. It is a love of all things Celtic which drives our organization. The Prescott Area Celtic Society is proud to be able to host the Prescott Highland Games & Celtic Faire and welcome all the Celtic Nations to join us in helping to share our heritage with the world.
