Volunteering at Philadelphia Community Corps! Pal-entine's Day rewards! February at VU PHL rules! Happy February, y'all! Great news, we're heading back to the location of our VERY. FIRST. EVENT. EVER! To our good friends at Philadelphia Community Corps. PCC provides career training programs that empower underserved citizens to revitalize blighted neighborhoods by deconstructing vacant buildings and salvaging materials for reuse. At PCC, trainees gain the skills and experiences necessary to succeed in the deconstruction, material salvage, and other building trade industries. Additionally, they receive OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) certification and an introductory course based on curriculum from the Building Materials Reuse Association. Ultimately, PCC aims to connect trainees to employment opportunities. Now that we've learned about the amazing work PCC does, let's chat logistics for this month's event, we love us some logistics. Channel your inner Chip & Joanna Gaines because you'll be getting your hands dirty this month by helping out with the following activities: Processing lumber (de-nailing, stacking, and bundling)Processing bricks (cleaning & palletizing bricks)Adjusting & assembling pallet racksGeneral organizing (sweeping, trash pick up, etc.)Moving inventoryWall framingPaneling framed wallsOther event details! Proof of COVID-19 vaccination with ID & mask required for all volunteersDress for the weather, the building can be drafty and we may be outside for some activities!We will be asking CDC Covid screening questions at check-inParking available on site***The Thursday (2/10) before the event we will email event details and confirm your attendance, if we do not hear from you in 24 hours we will assume you can no longer make it and give your spot to the next person on the waitlist. In honor of PAL-entine's Day (it's a thing, step aside Valentine's Day), anyone who brings a friend to this month's event will be entered into a raffle for a $50 gift card to City Tap House! ***Raffle will happen at the end of the event*** The concept is simple - we volunteer with a different nonprofit organization in Philadelphia on the second Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., then spend the afternoon at a local bar for food, drinks, networking and fun with fellow, like-minded individuals. This program was created to give young professionals the opportunity for inspiring and rewarding experiences that will help forge a passion for future volunteering – both with our organization and on their own. Volunteering Untapped was born out of the realization that young professionals in Baltimore, Chicago, and Philadelphia want to give back to their community, but simply don’t know the best way to get involved. We solve that problem. Our mantra? Volunteering…made easy.
