Students will work with their peers to create a unique basketball court and ball launcher with a wide range of exciting, everyday materials Challenge Island is a fun, STEAM-based, cross curricular, enrichment program that uses student's natural curiosity and creativity to foster 21st Century Skills by engaging them in hands-on activities using everyday objects in a high-energy, authentic, learning environment--in person or virtually. In this adventure, taken from our Cool Careers Island, students will work with their peers to create a unique basketball court and ball launcher with a wide range of exciting, everyday materials. In this unique S.T.E.A.M. adventure, cooperative S.T.E.A.M. Teams will use creative and critical thinking skills to design and build catapults, while grasping the connected concepts of elasticity. Next, they will collaborate with their tribe to design and construct a basketball arena. Finally, they will develop their own game rules and demonstrate their catapults while experimenting with distance. Let's get creative!
