Description
WAUKESHA, WI—The opening for the new Waukesha overflow shelter has been delayed a week.
The Housing Action Coalition of Waukesha County purchased and renovated the former fire station at 1210 Sentry Dr. into an emergency homeless overflow shelter during the winter months.
The building will also provide office and conference space for HAC staff year-round.
"Due to unforeseen circumstances, The Waukesha Overflow Shelter has delayed opening until Monday. We are eager to open the doors, but we need to make final preparations to ensure we can start serving those in our community seeking shelter," HAC said in a statement.
The facility has 30-40 additional shelter beds for single women, single men, and families with children who are unable to get into other shelters, the HAC website said.
If you wish to donate towards the shelter, financial donations can be made to The Housing Action Coalition and mailed to P.O. Box 605, Waukesha, 53186.
