CHELMSFORD, MA —Former Chelmsford Deputy Police Chief Daniel Ahern has left the town to start a new role as Police Chief for South Portland, Maine.
Ahern was officially sworn into his new role on Tuesday morning. He will begin his duties immediately.
Ahern started his law enforcement career with the Chelmsford Police Department in 1994 and has been the town's deputy police chief since 2014. He holds a Master's degree in Public Administration from Anna Maria College and is a graduate of the 277th session of the FBI National Academy.
"Chief Ahern, the South Portland Police family is honored to have you as our new chief," said the department in a Facebook post. "We are excited to work with you, knowing that under your leadership, the South Portland Police Department will be one of the most progressive departments in the state and the community of South Portland will continue to flourish as one of the best cities in Maine."
The Chelmsford Police Department has not yet said who is in the running to become the new Deputy Police Chief.
