ROCKVILLE, MD — A man is facing charges after he shot at Maryland Park Police officers in Olney, authorities said.
Olney Swim Center staff called police when they saw a man they believed was responsible for recent thefts. Officers got to the center as the man was driving away from the center — Maryland Park Police says the man ignored officers as they attempted to get him to stop the car. There was no pursuit, but the officers put out a description of the vehicle and canvassed nearby.
Shortly afterward there was an accident on Georgia Avenue and King William Drive, and one of the drivers left his car behind after hitting the other vehicle, witnesses told police. Officers found the driver of the car on Buehler Court and approached him, when the man fired shots at the officers and missed, according to police. No one was injured, according to police.
He fled and was found hiding behind a house, where he was arrested, according to police. A handgun and shell casing were found nearby, the Maryland Park Police said.
A police spokesperson told Bethesda Beat that the man who was suspected of theft at the Olney Swim Center was the man who caused the accident.
