NEW MILFORD, CT — A New Milford man who police said has been seen shooting birds near a Bethel hotel three times has been arrested, according to reports.
Though the man was charged with having a weapon in a motor vehicle, his arrest stemmed from a report of a man with a rifle shooting at pigeons, Hearst Connecticut Media reported.
The incident, which police responded to on Thursday at around 2:12 p.m., marked the third time 66-year-old Antonio Amaral has been spotted shooting birds in the area of a hotel on Benedict Road in Bethel, WLAD reported.
Amaral wasn't in that area when officers arrived, but police stopped him less than a mile from the hotel, the radio station said.
There, officers charged him with the class D felony after they found an air-powered BB rifle "unsecured in his vehicle," Hearst reported.
He was released on bond, according to WLAD.
